HIST 200 is less a survey of Türkiye tarihi than a hands-on apprenticeship in *doing* history — you learn to ask a meaningful historical question, dig into primary and secondary sources (often including oral history), and defend a thesis the way a working historian would. The semester is built around a team research project: you pitch a topic, meet weekly with your instructor, sit a methodology quiz, submit a proposal, preliminary report, and draft, then present and turn in a 3000-word Chicago-style research paper. It's a university-wide zorunlu ders that shows up across years 2-4 because Bilkent treats source criticism and argument-building as core literacy, not a history-major specialty.
