Turkey sits at the intersection of three phytogeographic regions, and this course trains you to read that landscape — recognizing which native species belong where, and why climate, topography, and soil push certain plant communities into certain places. You'll spend the semester identifying species, taking a field trip, and producing four design projects that put native plants to work in actual landscape compositions, with biodiversity and climate-change pressures as the lens. It's the plant-materials backbone for the rest of the LAUD studio sequence: once you know the flora, you can design with it instead of just drawing green blobs.
