Design Studio II: Housing

The second studio in the urban design sequence, where you move from abstract spatial exercises into a real housing site and have to reconcile dwellings, open space, traffic, and pedestrian flow for actual user groups and densities. Most of your semester lives on the drafting table: site analysis, iterative design proposals, desk and panel critiques, a sketch problem, and vertical juries shared with the 302 and 402 studios, so you learn as much from watching upper-year students get torn apart as from your own reviews. It is the bridge between learning to read a site and tackling larger urban fabrics later, and it is where housing stops being a typology in a textbook and becomes a problem of people, terrain, and neighborhood logic.
