Design Studio IV: City Center

LAUD 302 is the third-year spring studio where you grapple with the city center as a design problem, the dense, multi-functional core where transportation networks, public space, and the friction between core and periphery all collide at once. The semester runs on the Vertical Studio model: you share the room with 202 and 402 students, work through site analysis and group research, then iterate a design proposal across desk critiques, panel reviews, two class juries, a sketch problem, and a final jury. It is the scale-up from neighborhood-level work in earlier studios toward the regional projects that follow, and it is where you start treating a site as a system embedded in a larger urban fabric rather than a standalone composition.
