Managing Consulting Projects

MAN 486 treats consulting as a structured way of thinking about messy business problems: you take an ambiguous situation, break it into pieces with frameworks like issue trees, Porter's five forces, and 80/20, and rebuild it into a defensible recommendation. The bulk of your time goes into three case studies (profitability, feasibility, new venture) plus MBB-style case interview practice, with classroom work on estimation, business planning, and project management tools like WBS and critical path. It sits late in the Management curriculum because it assumes you already know strategy, operations, and finance fundamentals — the point is to integrate them under time pressure the way a junior consultant actually would, which also makes it the most directly useful course if you're targeting consulting recruiting.
