Human genetics is where the abstract rules of inheritance you learned in earlier genetics courses meet actual patients — Mendelian pedigrees become cystic fibrosis families, chromosomal aberrations become Down syndrome karyotypes, and point mutations become hemoglobinopathies. You'll work through single-gene and multifactorial inheritance, clinical cytogenetics, and the molecular basis of disease, alongside problem sets, a project with presentation, quizzes, and two midterms built around Thompson & Thompson. As a senior MBG elective, it bridges molecular genetics with the clinical and counseling side of the field, which matters whether you're heading toward medical school, genetic diagnostics, or disease-focused research.
