Cancer is fundamentally a disease of broken genetic circuitry, and this course traces how normal cells accumulate the mutations and signaling failures that turn them malignant — from oncogene activation and tumor suppressor loss to the way tumors recruit blood supply, evade immunity, and metastasize. You'll work through Weinberg chapter by chapter, present primary literature to the class, and tackle homeworks and quizzes that push you past memorization toward proposing your own hypotheses. Building on the molecular biology and genetics core, it ties those mechanisms to real disease and sets up later work in immunotherapy, drug discovery, and translational research.
