Bioinformatics

MBG 513 is about turning biological data into answers, learning how to ask the right computational questions of genomes, transcriptomes, and protein networks rather than just running tools blindly. You'll spend most of your time in R (tidyverse plus Bioconductor) working through NGS pipelines, differential expression, clustering, dimension reduction, and functional enrichment, with hands-on practice reinforced by take-home exams, five homeworks, and a presentation tied to a primary-literature reading. Coming in with molecular biology fundamentals, this is the course that bridges wet-lab thinking and data science, and it's the foundation almost any modern MBG thesis or downstream omics work will lean on.
