Advanced Molecular Genetics

This course pushes past the introductory genetics view of "one gene, one trait" and treats the genome as a structured, dynamic system — covering how inheritance actually behaves once you account for epigenetics, non-Mendelian patterns, polymorphism, and chromosomal variation. You'll sit two midterms and a final, but the core work is a model-organism presentation (fly, fish, mouse, worm, yeast) where you dig into how a specific system is used to map gene structure and function. As a senior MBG requirement, it consolidates earlier coursework on transmission and molecular genetics into the framework you'll need for GWAS, medical genetics, and graduate-level research.
