Tonal Counterpoint

Counterpoint is the craft of writing multiple independent melodic lines that work together harmonically, and this course trains you in the Baroque approach to it, essentially learning to think the way Bach did when he wrote a fugue. You'll work through species counterpoint in two and three voices, then build up to canons, inventions, and eventually composing and analyzing fugues yourself, with steady weekly assignments out of Kennan's textbook plus quizzes and a project. It's the practical companion to your harmony and analysis sequence, and it's where compositional technique stops being about chords and starts being about voice-leading discipline that carries into nearly everything you'll write afterward.
