Score Reading I

Score Reading I trains you to look at a full ensemble score and hear it — not just read your own line, but realize the whole texture at the keyboard, including the C clefs (soprano, alto, tenor) that older scores use and the on-the-fly transposition that horns, clarinets, and trumpets demand. Most of the work happens at the piano: weekly individual lessons paired with a group class where you sight-read chorales, duos, and small chamber scores, building from two staves up to four-part writing with transposing instruments mixed in. It's a core skill for conductors, composers, and theorists — once you can collapse a score into your hands and ears, analysis, rehearsal, and orchestration all stop being abstract.

Hafta 1
Lecture and Individual Performance Outcome Knowledge: Theoretical knowledge of; - Clefs, musical lines, musical terminology involving tempo, dynamics etc. - Basic homophonic and polyphonic textural elements - Tonality including chord progressions and harmony. Skills: Students will be able to; - Read and perform on the keyboard fluently notes from a score intended for: - Chorales in 2 staves (keyboard) G, F clefs. - Polyphonic texture 2 staves in 2 different C clefs. - Keyboard and 1 non transposing solo instrument. - String and wind duos. - Keyboard harmonisation written and performed. - Achieve and develop; - Inner aural reading of single instrument with articulation, dynamics, tempo etc. Course Organization Course is split into two formats: - Lecture/Group Class: Knowledge, preparatory exercises, sight-reading workshop and presentation. - Individual Lesson: curriculum and exercises tailed to individual background and needs. Each missed individual meeting results in a loss of 5 points from performance points earned in 12 weeks for %60 of course final grade. Make-ups only applicable during each week.
