Conducting I is a one-on-one studio course where you learn to translate a score into the physical language an orchestra can read—baton technique, gesture, cueing, and the interpretive decisions that sit underneath all of it. Most of your time goes into preparing assigned instrumental and operatic repertoire and bringing it to weekly individual sessions, with assessment split between practical podium exams and a written component on score study. It's the foundation of the conducting track: the habits of preparation and physical clarity you build here are what later ensemble and opera work assume you already have.

Course is split into two formats: - Lecture: Knowledge, analysis and presentation. - Individual Lesson: Curriculum and exercises on repertoire with practical piano accompaniment sessions and rehearsals with orchestra. Each missed individual meeting results in a loss of 4 points from performance points earned in 11 weeks for %44 of course final grade. Make-ups only applicable during each week.
