Child and Adolescent Psychopathology

Childhood and adolescence aren't just "smaller versions" of adult mental health — disorders look different, develop differently, and demand a developmental lens, which is the through-line of this course. You'll work through DSM criteria, etiology, and case material for the major categories (neurodevelopmental, internalizing, externalizing, trauma-related), with an essay being the main deliverable alongside lectures and case studies. It builds naturally on developmental and abnormal psychology coursework and is one of the more clinically-oriented PSYC electives, useful if you're heading toward graduate work in clinical, school, or counseling psychology.
