TEFL 510

Language Testing

Language assessment is really about making defensible claims from a small sample of performance, so this course pushes you to think like a test designer rather than a test-taker: every item, rubric, and score has to be tied back to a construct, an intended use, and evidence that the inference holds up. You'll build test specifications, write and critique items across the four skills plus vocabulary and grammar, and assemble a portfolio that documents your design decisions alongside reliability and validity checks. It's a graduate TEFL elective that turns the linguistics and methodology you've already done into something operational, useful whether you end up writing placement tests, running a prep program, or just refusing to give a bad quiz.
