Written Academic Discourse

CI 532 is a graduate writing workshop built around one concrete deliverable: the front matter of your MA thesis, Chapter 1, the literature review, and the methodology, written to the conventions an academic reader will actually expect. You'll spend the semester drafting these chapters in pieces, learning to summarize and paraphrase sources without losing your own argument, running APA-compliant database searches, and trading drafts in peer review before submitting work for instructor feedback. It's essentially the bridge between coursework and thesis writing, so the skills you build here, sourcing literature, framing a research question, citing cleanly, are the ones you'll lean on for every chapter that follows.
