Fundamentals of Information Systems

Information systems sit at the seam between business and technology, and this course is about learning to read that seam — how organizations actually use databases, networks, and software to make decisions, gain leverage, and occasionally fail at both. You'll work through the Laudon & Laudon managerial lens with quizzes, a written midterm and final, and a term project where a team designs a simple IS end-to-end, plus weekly lab sessions on the underlying tech. As a first-semester CTIS requirement, it's the conceptual scaffolding the rest of the program — databases, networking, systems analysis, security — hangs off of, so the vocabulary and frameworks you pick up here keep resurfacing.
