Object Oriented Programming

CTIS 221 is where you stop thinking in scripts and start thinking in objects — the course rebuilds your mental model of a program as a system of classes that talk to each other through well-defined interfaces, using Java as the vehicle. Expect weekly labs, a term project, and a practical lab final, so most of your time goes into actually writing code: designing class hierarchies, wiring up inheritance and polymorphism, handling files and collections, and eventually putting a GUI on top. It assumes you can already write procedural code from intro programming, and almost everything later in the CTIS track — data structures, database apps, web and mobile development — quietly expects you to be fluent in the habits you pick up here.
