CTIS 286 is essentially about running the back-office of a hotel kitchen or restaurant through software — turning the messy reality of suppliers, stockrooms, recipes, and portion costs into a clean database you can actually query and report on. You'll spend the semester inside a commercial F&B package building item catalogs, entering invoices, costing recipes (including sub-recipes and what-if scenarios), setting min/max par levels, and pulling reconciliation reports, with both the midterm and final graded as hands-on practical exams rather than written tests. As a spring sophomore CTIS course it sits alongside your other applied-IT requirements and is meant to show how the database and reporting concepts you're learning in general get specialized for one vertical — useful background if you later end up doing ERP, inventory, or hospitality-sector consulting work.
