Teaching Methods, Planning and Evaluation

This course is where you stop being a student of subjects and start thinking like a designer of learning — translating theories like constructivism and inquiry-based instruction into actual lesson plans, units, and assessments that hold together. You'll spend the semester building a portfolio: writing lesson and unit plans, designing rubrics and tests, running a micro-teaching session, and reflecting on what worked and why. It sits at the core of the second-year education sequence, bridging the foundational psychology and philosophy courses behind it with the practicum and subject-specific methods courses ahead, so the planning and evaluation habits you form here are the ones you'll lean on in front of a real classroom.
