EEE 392 is your first taste of doing real engineering research instead of just consuming it: you pick a topic anywhere across EE, find a faculty member willing to supervise, and spend a semester actually working on it. The deliverables are simple on paper — a project, a written report, and a presentation — but the work is open-ended, so most of the semester is weekly check-ins where your advisor pushes on your plan and progress. It's a junior-level dry run for the senior design project and graduate-style work, and it's where you learn the unglamorous parts of research: scoping a problem down to something tractable, surveying what's already been done, and writing up results so someone else can follow them.
