GRA 211

Typography I

Typography I is where you stop treating letters as transparent carriers of words and start treating them as designed objects whose shape, spacing, and arrangement do the communicating. The semester runs on six studio projects, negative-positive letterforms, hierarchy, grid systems, typeface combinations, each paired with a Carter & Meggs chapter and ending in a group critique, so most of your time is spent iterating in the studio rather than sitting in lectures. It's a foundational studio for the Graphic Design track: the vocabulary and eye you build here carry directly into editorial, identity, and screen-based design courses later on.
