Conceptual Design

Despite the catalog blurb about packaging and advertising, this course is really an introduction to user-experience design: translating abstract intent into concrete artifacts by reasoning about who will use them, how, and under what constraints. You'll work through a sequence of studio projects that march from empathy research and persona-building through grids, typography, and responsive layout, ending in a prototyped and usability-tested final project, with Norman and Krug as your anchor texts. It's the bridge between the foundational form-making of earlier GRA studios and the screen-based, systems-driven work that dominates the rest of the curriculum.
