Sustainable Design for Interiors

Sustainability here means treating the interior as a system that has to manage its own water, energy, air, and thermal loads rather than just looking green, so the course pushes you to think about a room the way a building services engineer would while still designing it as an interior architect. The semester is built around a term project carried through weekly crits (concept, development, detailing), backed by lectures and homework on water supply, heating, daylighting and ventilation, plus a midterm and a fire safety seminar. It sits late in the IAED sequence because it expects you to fold technical constraints into the design vocabulary you've built in earlier studios, and it's the course that prepares you to defend material and systems choices in your fourth-year graduation project.
