Architectural Acoustics teaches you to treat sound as a design material, something to shape, absorb, and contain rather than tolerate, alongside the building-code side of fire safety that interior designers are expected to know but rarely get taught. Most of the semester runs through Egan's framework for room acoustics and sound isolation, but the real work is a term project where you analyze and propose acoustical treatments for a real space, supported by studio exercises and a midterm on the underlying theory. Coming in your third-year autumn, it's the moment where studio decisions start being judged on performance criteria, not just spatial composition, and the noise-control intuition you build here carries into thesis-level interior projects.
