Places/Memories asks how space holds memory, how a kitchen, a street, or a demolished neighborhood becomes the scaffolding for both personal recollection and collective history. The semester runs as a reading-and-discussion seminar where you work through theories of everyday life and socio-spatial practice, then produce an original research paper, often grounded in oral history interviews you design yourself. It's an elective that pulls IAED out of pure design studio mode and into the humanities side of the field, giving you the theoretical vocabulary to argue *why* a space matters, not just how it looks, useful preparation for thesis work or any project where heritage, lived experience, and place identity are at stake.
