Symphony Orchestra I

A semester-long ensemble placement rather than a classroom course: depending on your major, you're assigned to the Youth Symphony Orchestra, the chorus, or a project-based ensemble, working through Western classical repertoire from Baroque to contemporary. The rhythm is straightforward — weekly rehearsals on assigned parts, building toward a final performance — so the real work happens between meetings, in personal practice and section preparation. It's a compulsory performance requirement that runs alongside your studio lessons and theory courses, and its purpose is less about new technique than about learning to listen, blend, and respond inside a large ensemble.
