Chamber Music I

Chamber Music I is where you stop practicing alone and learn to actually play *with* other people — listening, breathing, and phrasing as a small ensemble rather than as a soloist who happens to be on stage. You'll spend the semester preparing baroque through pre-classical repertoire (Boccherini, Hummel, Stamitz and company), analyzing each score for form, harmony, and articulation before bringing it into rehearsal, with your grade riding entirely on two practical midterms and a final performance. It's foundational ensemble training that feeds directly into later chamber and orchestral work, and it's the course where the technical skills from your instrument lessons finally have to translate into musical conversation.
