Chamber Music II

Building on Chamber Music I, this course centers on small-ensemble performance from the pre-Classical and early Classical era, where the real work is learning to listen across stands and shape a unified interpretation rather than just playing your own part well. You rehearse assigned repertoire, mostly Haydn's early quartets and trios plus Beethoven duos and trios, and are graded entirely through practical juries: two midterm performances and a final. Expect to spend the semester wrestling with intonation, phrasing, and balance inside the ensemble, which is the foundation every later chamber and orchestral course at the faculty assumes you've internalized.
