Singing Voice I is where you start treating your voice as a professional instrument rather than just something you sing with, building the technical discipline and interpretive judgment that serious vocal performance demands. You'll work through a progressively assigned repertoire over the semester, learning each piece in depth, its composer, period, harmonic and rhythmic structure, phrasing, articulation, and being assessed almost entirely through practical performance juries (three midterms plus a final). It's a foundational studio course, so the habits you form here, how you practice, diagnose technical problems, and internalize a score, carry directly into every subsequent vocal and ensemble course in the degree.
