This course trains you to sing German and French lyrically by reading the International Phonetic Alphabet rather than guessing at spellings, so the focus is on hearing and producing every closed vowel, nasal, and liaison the way the repertoire actually demands. You will transcribe text into IPA, work through the quirks of both languages (unvoiced final consonants in German, forbidden vs. compulsory liaison in French), and bring it back to the voice through recitation and performance. It pairs naturally with applied voice and song literature, giving you the tools to prepare any Lied or mélodie without leaning on a coach for every word.
