The second half of the vocal pedagogy sequence shifts from generic mechanics to the question of how singers actually produce stylistically appropriate sound, tracing a line from Caccini and the early Italian school through Lamperti and Garcia into modern fach training and music theater technique. You'll spend the term learning to hear vocal production diagnostically, building the vocabulary to describe what's happening behind a tone, and writing on figures and concepts like chiaroscuro, appoggio, registration, and vibrato. It assumes you already have the foundation from Pedagogy I and prepares you to teach or coach voices outside your own fach, which is what most graduates end up doing in studio work.
