The second half of the nanoscience sequence shifts focus from "what happens at the nanoscale" to "how do we actually build and measure things there" — connecting fabrication routes like self-assembly, sol-gel, and DNA origami to the full toolbox of microscopy, spectroscopy, and transport characterization that tells you whether your sample is what you think it is. Coursework leans heavily on regular quizzes and homework with a substantial project, so you are continuously matching a material system to the right characterization technique rather than memorizing topics. Building on MSN 517, it is the bridge course for graduate students moving into nanomaterials research across MSN, physics, EEE, and chemistry, where picking the wrong probe wastes months of lab time.
