ARCH 201 is where you stop drawing in the abstract and start making design decisions that have to defend themselves: how a small building sits on a real site, who occupies it, and why one move is better than another. The semester runs as a studio — a short warm-up exercise to set the vocabulary, then one term project carried from site analysis through programming, pre-jury, and final jury, with desk crits replacing lectures. It's the first of the four-semester design studio spine, so the habits you build here (reading precedents, iterating under critique, communicating in plan-section-axo) are what every later studio assumes you already have.
