Architectural Building Systems

This is where architecture stops being purely about form and starts engaging with what buildings are actually made of — brick, concrete, timber, steel, glass, insulation, sealants — and how those materials get assembled into something that stands up, keeps water out, and doesn't waste energy. You'll work through reports, a project, and site visits, with the main deliverable being detail drawings that show how an assembly actually comes together rather than just what it looks like. It runs alongside your second-year studio and gives you the material vocabulary you'll lean on for the rest of the program, especially once later studios and the construction sequence start expecting you to defend why a wall is built the way you drew it.
