Media Studies II

The second half of the media studies sequence shifts from describing media forms to interrogating them through critical theory — asking how audiences, industries, technologies, and surveillance systems actually shape (and are shaped by) the culture they circulate in. You'll work through readings on communication theory, write essay-based midterm and final responses, and build toward a term research project that you present at the end of the semester. It's the conceptual backbone for upper-year COMD work: once you can argue about ownership structures, spectatorship, and mediated environments rather than just identify them, the production and industry courses that follow have something to push against.
