Screenwriting here is treated as structural engineering for stories, you learn how character, conflict, and scene architecture actually carry a film, not just how to format a script. Most of the semester is spent building your own work: generating premises, pitching them to the class, drafting a short narrative screenplay through revisions, and putting together a proposal for a second audio-visual project. It's the writing-side foundation for the production and directing courses later in the COMD track, and the pitching practice matters as much as the pages, in this field, an unsold script is just a document.
