Analysis of Moving Image

This course teaches you to read moving images the way a literature course teaches you to read texts — breaking down how mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing, and sound combine to produce meaning across Hollywood, alternative cinema, documentary, and Turkish television. You'll work through weekly close-analyses, a midterm, and a group video essay project where you apply videographic criticism rather than just writing about film. It's the analytical backbone that COMD students lean on for later production and theory courses: once you can name what a shot is doing, you can argue about it, replicate it, or push against it.
