News Reporting and Writing

This is a hands-on journalism course built around the craft of turning events into clear, accurate copy under deadline pressure, learning to see what makes something news, then writing it for print, broadcast, or online audiences. You'll work through weekly writing assignments practicing the inverted pyramid, leads, and quotations, conduct real interviews, cover speeches or press conferences, and produce both a straight news report and a longer in-depth feature or profile for a medium you choose. It sits in the practical core of the COMD curriculum, giving you the reporting fundamentals that more specialized media production, broadcasting, and digital journalism courses later assume you already have.
