Science Writing and Journalism

Science journalism sits at the awkward seam between peer-reviewed research and a general reader who didn't take the prereqs, and this course is about learning to translate across that gap without flattening the science or hyping it. You'll read actual journal papers, hunt down sources, develop storyboards, and produce written features and talks on topics like climate, health, and tech — graded mostly through homework assignments and a presentation. It pairs naturally with the department's writing and media-production strand, and the "spot bad science" reflex it trains is useful well beyond journalism, including for anyone who'll later interpret research in policy, PR, or their own field.
