Multimedia journalism is about how reporting actually works once the page stops being paper — when a story can be a tweet thread, a photo essay, a three-minute audio piece, or an interactive data visualization, and the reporter has to decide which form fits the truth they're trying to tell. You'll spend the semester running a real beat blog: pitching stories, going out with a phone or camera to gather sources and footage, and publishing photo-essays, audio slideshows, and short video pieces alongside written posts. It's a hands-on counterpart to the theory-heavier media courses in COMD, and the workflow you build here — research, capture, edit, publish, curate — is the baseline expected of anyone going into newsrooms, content teams, or digital communications today.
