Digital Culture

Digital media isn't just a set of tools you use, it's the infrastructure that now shapes how identity, politics, economy, and knowledge actually work, and this course gives you the theoretical vocabulary (network society, platform capitalism, algorithmic culture) to read that infrastructure critically instead of just living inside it. You'll read Miller, Lindgren, and Kitchin, discuss weekly in a seminar format, write a homework piece and a final essay, and sit one midterm. It's a required third-year COMD course that turns the platforms and feeds you already know intuitively into objects of analysis, preparing you for thesis-level work on media, data, and society.
