Contemporary Issues in Turkish Economy

Macro theory meets the Turkish case: the course takes the tools you picked up in intermediate macro and money/banking and points them at what's actually happening in the economy — inflation episodes, the current account deficit, exchange rate dynamics, capital flows, and the structural rigidities behind them. Most of the semester is spent reading central bank reports and tracking data alongside lectures on monetary policy, the external accounts, and labor market frictions, with the bulk of your grade riding on a final term paper where you tie a current policy question back to theory. It's a senior-level elective that rewards students who already think in IS-LM and balance-sheet terms and want to stop treating Turkey as a textbook example and start reading it as a live system.
