Hands-on studio work where you learn to actually make things out of clay, slab building, texturing, glazing, loading and firing a kiln, rather than just studying ceramics theoretically. You'll run through short exercises to build technique, then commit to one larger project anchored in the life and work of a ceramic artist you research, ending with a portfolio of pieces and a paper connecting your process to theirs. It's an entry point into the Fine Arts studio sequence, useful whether you continue with Introduction to Ceramics II or just want a working understanding of material craft alongside more conceptual coursework.
