Introduction to Sculpture I

A hands-on studio elective for non-FA majors that treats sculpture as a way of training your eye and hands to think in three dimensions, rather than a survey of art history. Most of the semester is spent in the studio actually making things: you cycle through basic materials and techniques, then commit to two longer projects that move from sketches and maquettes through critiques to a finished piece, plus a short research component on the second one. It pairs well with engineering or design backgrounds where you already model objects on screen but rarely shape physical material, and it counts toward the non-technical elective load without assuming any prior art training.
