Visual Perception and Color

Color is treated here as both a perceptual phenomenon and a working material, you learn how the eye and brain construct color, how hue, value, and saturation behave on a surface, and how cultural meaning has shaped color from antiquity onward. Most weeks pair a short lecture with an acrylic studio exercise, plus a student-led presentation on a single color and its symbolism across periods. As a second-year required course in Fine Arts, it builds the trained eye and color vocabulary you will lean on in painting, design, and any later studio where compositional decisions depend on seeing accurately.
