Introduction to Printmaking I

Water-based silkscreen is the entry point here, but the real subject is learning to think in layers and editions — how an image gets broken apart into stencils, films, and photo-emulsion exposures, then rebuilt as a repeatable print. You'll work through paper stencils, drawing fluid, rubylith, and halftone photo processes in small editions, printing on paper and fabric, with individual and group critiques shaping each round before a multi-process, multi-layer final project. Expect studio time and shop safety to matter as much as ideas; this is the foundational printmaking course that grounds later studio electives and gives Fine Arts students a working vocabulary for any reproduction-based medium.
