Character Animation and Sequential Storytelling

Animation here is treated as a storytelling medium rather than a software skill — the central question is how a character, a sequence of frames, and a controlled rhythm of images can carry a narrative that a viewer actually feels. You'll move through the full pre-production pipeline (idea, script, storyboard, character and environment design, color script) and then animate short exercises like a bouncing ball with personality or a falling leaf with a tiny story, applying the 12 principles across traditional, cut-out, stop-motion, and digital techniques. As a studio elective in COMD, it complements the department's design and visual communication courses by giving you a working vocabulary for sequential art, and the portfolio pieces you build here are the kind of work that lands you internships in animation, motion graphics, or game studios.

Discussing and defining some terms; -What is the narrative? What is visual narrative? What is sequential art? What is animation? A quick history -Visual narrative in history, specifically history of animation
Hafta 3
How to make an animated movie? -Pre-production: idea, plot, synopsis, script, storyboard, character design, environment design, color script Production: animation, sound, vfx Post-Production: compositing, editing Common animation production techniques -Traditional, cut-out, motion graphics, stop-motion, 3d, mixed, ai practice: create a narration (any narration) using 3-5 sequential image.

12 principles of animation -Bouncing ball practice: giving a character to your ball: a very heavy, or a light ball, or a ball that doesn’t know where to go…

Adding a tail to the bouncing ball(straight forward animation), walk cycle. -practice: animate a falling leaf from a tree and maybe add a very little story to it. (Friends breaking apart…) -Using reference -CHALLENGE! turn your bouncing ball into something
