Lighting Design

Lighting is treated here as a design material in its own right—shaping how an interior is perceived, used, and felt—rather than a technical afterthought bolted onto a finished room. You'll work through the physics and perception side in lectures and short quizzes, run illuminance calculations and small lab exercises, and spend most of your effort on a semester-long project lighting a small interior space with both daylight and artificial sources. It sits alongside the second-year studio sequence, giving you a vocabulary for light and color that later studios, materials, and detailing courses assume you already have.
