IE 477 is the first half of the senior graduation project, where you partner with a real company to diagnose how their operations actually work and pin down the problem they want solved. Most of the semester is spent on the ground with your team: mapping the current system, negotiating deliverables with the client, collecting data, and building a conceptual model you can defend in front of coordinators through proposal reports and presentations. It's where everything from your IE coursework — optimization, stochastics, simulation, ergonomics — gets stress-tested against a messy real system before IE 478 turns your proposed approach into an implemented solution next semester.
