Introduction to Business II

Despite the "business" label, this is really a computational toolkit course: you learn to turn messy data into decisions using spreadsheets, a bit of VBA, and introductory Python. Expect to spend most of your time in lab building Excel models — pivot tables, lookups, TVM calculations, Solver-based optimization, What-If scenarios — then automating the tedious parts with macros and finishing the semester writing small Pandas scripts in Jupyter. It pairs with MAN 101 to round out your first year and gives you the analytical muscle you'll lean on later in finance, operations, and any upper-level course where someone hands you a CSV and expects an answer.

Basic and advanced usage of Built-in functions [CountIf(s), AverageIf(s), SumIf(s) etc.] Representing data graphically, customization of charts. Writing formulas to manage data & solve problems. Steps of basic data analysis based on emphasis, organization and grouping (Sorting, Conditional Formatting and Filtering)

Filtering vs Pivot Tables. Data analysis & interpretation with Pivot Tables & Charts.

Hafta 4

Data analysis & interpretation with simple and advanced LookUp functions. (VLookUp & HLookUp)

Hafta 5

Boolean Operators & Functions (AND/OR/NOT). Composing simple If Statements. Making decisions & predictions by forming NESTED IF statements.

Hafta 6

MS Excel Basic Financial Functions (i.e. Time Value of Money). Usage of PV, FV, RATE, NPER, PMT functions. Making decisions with Multiple Cash Flow analyses and forming an Amortization Table.

Analyzing and predicting data by different options of the What-If Analysis tool (Ex: Break-Even Analysis by one/two-variable data tables; Calculating exact break-even utilizing Goal Seek and preparing Best/Expected/Worst case scenarios by using Scenario Manager tool)

Linear Programming by Excel SOLVER add-in. Profit maximization/Cost minimization and optimization problems.

Hafta 9

Data analysis, interpretation and presentation by VBA Macros I (Working with String and Integer type of variables, Input and MsgBox functions; Assigning macro codes to buttons)

Data analysis, interpretation and presentation by VBA Macros II (Applications with If….Then….Else/Nested If statements and iteration by For Each…..Next statement)

Hafta 11

Data analysis, interpretation and presentation by VBA Macros III (Preparing scenarios, making predictions and decision making by considering building blocks of algorithms)

PYTHON I - Introduction to Python Environment. Installation & set-up process of Jupyter Notebook. Declaring and using variables. Importing and working with Python modules such as Math, Random & Numpy.

Hafta 13

PYTHON II - Understanding and developing iterative procedures (For and While loops), Boolean functions (AND, OR, NOT), and conditional statements (If, Elif, Else, and Nested If statements).

Hafta 14

PYTHON III - Analyzing and exploring MS Excel and CSV files by performing basic calculations (sum, average, max, min, etc.) and applying filters with the Pandas module.

The students enrolled in MAN102 - Introduction to Business II course are required to use AI tools during the lab and when studying at home, specifically when solving self-study tasks, to address problems related to formulas and functions (e.g., using the wrong delimiter) that they have generated. Additionally, they are expected to utilize appropriate AI tools for correcting or updating erroneous code when implementing programming tasks related to VBA and Python.
